Expert Cider Insights with Alex Benjamin!
We are very excited to welcome Alex Benjamin to the club this month. Alex is a true cider expert and currently serves as a cider maker at Thornbury Craft Co. He has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to fermentation, fruit selection, and the nuances of creating a balanced, refreshing cider.
Alex will be sharing his wisdom from homebrewing and professional experience with us, offering tips that apply to both beginners and seasoned brewers looking to branch out into the world of pomaceous fruit. Whether you are curious about yeast strains, back-sweetening, or just want to know how the pros do it, this presentation will be incredibly valuable.
The Great Spice Competition Judging
Back in March, we held a snake draft to pair up specific spices with various beer styles. It was a fun and unpredictable session that left a lot of us wondering how those combinations would actually turn out.
The time for wondering is over. This meeting will serve as the official judging for our Spice Competition. The entrants should bring 2 unmarked bottles or cans for judging, and additional ones for sharing purposes (they don’t necessarily have to be unmarked). It is finally time to taste the results of those creative, and sometimes risky, pairings. We look forward to seeing how everyone managed to balance their assigned spice with their chosen style.
The ultimate prize for the first-place winner is the professional collaboration brew with Andrew McCready at Bickford Brewing, giving you the chance to see your own recipe scaled up on a commercial system.
Membership & Guest Attendance
Due to AGCO requirements for serving home-brewed beer under SOP (Special Occasion Permit), club membership is required to attend monthly meetings. However, prospective members are invited to attend their first meeting as a guest to check us out before committing to membership.
