Presentation: Deep Dive on Tropical Stouts with Victor North

We have something extra special for March! We are thrilled to have Victor North walk us through a virtual exploration of the Tropical Stout style (BJCP 16C). Victor has worked in the beer industry for well over a decade, originally as a brewer and has been in a support role for the Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management Program at Niagara College since 2014. He’ll be guiding us along a tasting of the Tropical Stout style featuring featuring a collaboration brew with Little Beasts Brewing: “Wait So Long”.
As a special feature, Little Beasts’ owner/brewer and guest Brew Slam judge, Erin Broadfoot, is accommodating GTA Brews with FREE DELIVERY (M1 to M6 postal codes - minimum 6 bottles per order) to Toronto of this style for our tasting and any other of Little Beasts beers that you wish to order. If you do choose to place an order, we suggest including the Television Shepherd, as Milk Stout is a closely related style which will be touched on in the presentation for context, and would be useful for comparing/contrasting during the tasting!
While no beer purchase is necessary for participation, other good options for comparison include the locally made "Paradise Found" from Saulter Street Brewery, and of course the classic BJCP commercial examples of Dragon, Sinha, (and Mackeson for milk stout) should you wish to assemble a commercial calibration tasting flight!
Brewery Show/Tell
During our last few meetings, we had several club members show and tell their home brewery spaces. The feedback has been very positive so we want to keep it going! It's a great opportunity to see more of our club members brewing spaces and equipment that we wouldn't normally see in an in person club meeting.
The first 30 minutes of the meeting will be dedicated to this idea! In order to execute this in an orderly fashion, we need people to email us to sign up!
Please email meetings@gtabrews.ca to sign up, or IM David Chang-Sang on Facebook.
